How does D&D operate?

Absolutely! We have successfully played with English-speaking players and even run some of our own campaigns in English at home. If you’d like to organise a D&D session in English, please use the contact form to reach out to us. We’ll respond as soon as we can!

We can accommodate a maximum of 6 players at a time, although the table might feel a bit cramped. This means everyone may need a bit more patience to ensure that there’s enough space and time for everyone to truly enjoy the game. If you’d like to play with even more players, please let us know! We can arrange multiple Dungeon Masters so that the groups can experience the same story. This often leads to interesting comparisons afterwards, as you can make different choices that significantly affect the course of the narrative. That makes each gaming session unique!

Dungeons & Dragons can be played with just one player and one Dungeon Master, but for beginners, this can be quite an intense experience as you'll need to make numerous choices. Therefore, we recommend starting with at least three players if you're new to the game. This creates a more balanced and immersive experience for novice groups.

The answer is that 'Dungeon Master' and 'DM' are intellectual property of Wizards of the Coast. GM is a broader title for someone who leads role-playing games in general. A DM, however, specifically refers to someone who leads Dungeons & Dragons games. In practice, the terms are sometimes used interchangeably.

As long as you like! At StoryForgers, we usually schedule our sessions for 4 hours of play, but we are open to adjustments. We can extend our sessions if needed, and a slight overrun is not an issue for us. If a session goes significantly beyond the planned time, we may charge extra. When you hire us, you hardly need any preparation. For a One-Shot and a Campaign, we create the Character Sheets in advance, so you don't have to worry about them. We also bring all game materials, such as miniatures and dice.

Before we start a session, we briefly cover the basics and explain the relevant rules as needed during gameplay.

This way, the game maintains good momentum, and everyone can have a great time.

It's easier than you think! Start by reading the Player's Handbook for the edition of D&D you're going to play. In our case, that's Fifth Edition, commonly known as D&D 5E.

The Player's Handbook contains all the essential information about rules, races, classes, and skills. We recommend browsing through it and getting inspired by all the possibilities!

Think about who your character is, their background, and their motivations. This will help you make choices during the character creation process. After that, it's quite straightforward. You choose a race, a class, and your attributes. You can use various apps to speed up this process. We recommend the Fifth Edition Character Sheet or the D&D Beyond app.

While it may not be the most complex tabletop RPG, it can be somewhat challenging for some to get started. Dungeons & Dragons has numerous rules, but our DMs are well-versed in helping newcomers learn the game. With their support, you'll soon understand the mechanics as you play!

All you need is a kitchen table, your imagination, and plenty of fun! For new players, we provide all the essential gear and explain the basic rules. Yes, we offer both in-person and online Dungeons & Dragons experiences. You can select the mode of play that suits you and your group best. Playing online allows you the flexibility to embark on adventures from home or anywhere in the world.

Absolutely! We are more than happy to accommodate the players' wishes. If there’s a specific campaign you’d like to play, you can get in touch with us and we will explore the options together. Please note that there may be additional fees for preparing a campaign that we haven't run before.

StoryForgers caters to seasoned players who might not always have the time to prepare full campaigns. We pay particular attention to what experienced players wish to see in their adventures, and requests are always welcome. As passionate D&D enthusiasts with backgrounds in theatre, graphic design, philosophy, and computer science, we utilise that expertise to enhance your experience: we embrace role-playing the wildest characters, bring the playing field to life with 3D printed miniatures and terrain, and employ AI image generators to create bespoke campaign art, among other things.

Furthermore, we provide workshops where you can explore the intricacies of dungeon mastering with skilled dungeon masters.

At present, we focus on Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition, but we welcome inquiries about other systems.

Ideally, we play at your home or workplace! This means it's great to have a table where everyone can sit and play in relative peace. The flow of the game can be disrupted if non-players come and go just to have a look. If someone doesn't have a suitable space available, we can look into alternatives. For instance, there might be a nearby café with a private area that we can use. Feel free to contact us and we can brainstorm solutions together!

Yes, we charge travel expenses based on the cost of using public transport to reach the location.

Once we have communicated via email, we will provide a quote based on your request. If you accept the quote, we will then send a payment request.

Absolutely! Before we gather to play, we always discuss any potential costs involved. Once we agree on the price, we send a formal invoice.

Having a drink during the game is perfectly fine. However, we do not allow players who are inebriated to participate. It complicates the game and can make some players feel uncomfortable. We have a strict policy regarding this and will end the game if we notice this rule is not being adhered to. See also our code of conduct.

We also cater for children's parties. We've organised numerous fun sessions and workshop days at schools. If you love playing D&D with your family and need a DM, that's absolutely fine!

For schools, we evaluate what we can provide for each group. We also have some educational D&D One-Shots that are great fun. Check out our business outing page for more details.

We have successfully run sessions with children with disabilities, autism, or ADHD, and we always aim to create an inclusive and supportive environment where everyone feels at ease.

If you know a session will not go ahead, it must be announced at least 72 hours in advance; otherwise, the full session fee will be charged. This is due to the significant time required to prepare a session. Payment for the session must also be made 72 hours in advance.
