Arthurian

Arthurian

Arthurian sessions evoke vows spoken by firelight and the sound of steel at dawn. You gather at Camelot, face trials in the wild wood, and weigh mercy against glory. Merlin’s riddles, rival knights, and faerie hospitality keep you on your toes. One night you earn honour at a tournament, the next you kneel in a ruined chapel before a wounded king. Romance intertwines with duty. Every oath has a cost, and the Grail awaits just beyond the next misty hill.

It works beautifully at the table because choices are clear and meaningful. Do you uphold the code, spare a foe, or protect a friend? Beginners and families appreciate the knightly teamwork and straightforward hooks. Team events thrive on squires, banners, and goals you can rally around. Veterans relish courtly intrigue, conflicting vows, and slow-burn tragedy. A professional Game Master ensures romance is safe, establishes lines and veils, and helps you navigate towards valor, comedy, or bittersweet endings.

Our Game Masters run Arthurian tales in Pendragon for passions and courtly customs, in D&D 5E for heroic action, or in Fate for story-driven drama. The tone can be bright high romance, grounded post-Roman grit, mystical faerie, or the tragic twilight of Camelot. If you have a preference, browse our game systems or let us know the style you desire. We’ll match you with a GM who can make that chivalric voice resonate.

Common questions

What sets Arthurian apart from typical medieval fantasy?

Arthurian play centres on honour, vows, and reputation. Instead of dungeon crawls and treasure, you spend time in courts and tournaments, on quests sparked by visions or pleas for help. Magic feels rare and uncanny, often tied to Merlin or the fae, rather than a toolbox of daily spells. Your choices about mercy, truth, and loyalty matter more than gold. Romance and rivalry can drive scenes, and fate can bite when ideals clash. It is chivalric drama first, fantasy action second.

Which game systems suit Arthurian stories best?

Pendragon is designed for this, featuring knightly passions, court customs, winters at home, and quests that challenge virtue. D&D 5E offers familiar combat and straightforward progression while maintaining the essence of Camelot. Fate allows you to focus on character motivations and quick scene framing for story-driven play. If you're uncertain, compare options on our game systems overview, then let us know the vibe you're aiming for. A professional Game Master can align the rules with your objectives.

Can we select a lighter or darker tone for Camelot?

Absolutely. You can request shining chivalry with vibrant colours and clear lines, a post-Roman Britain with mud on boots, eerie tales of faerie hospitality and bargains, or the final tough years before Camelot's fall. Your group can set boundaries for romance and violence, and our Game Masters use safety tools and check-ins to ensure everyone feels comfortable. You can also choose a GM whose style matches that mood on our playstyle overview.

What can we expect from an Arthurian one-shot?

Most one-shots begin at a hall or tournament, where a plea, omen, or insult sends your knights on their way. Anticipate a brief journey featuring two to three key encounters, such as a joust, a riddle at a bridge, a wounded traveller, or a faerie bargain. You will encounter a moral choice just as often as a duel. A professional Game Master supplies ready knights and squires, names and coats of arms, along with clear objectives. You conclude with honours awarded, or a bittersweet vow.

What players are saying

  • First of all, I want to say that Sebastian was really great as a DM. For his first run as a booked DM, he did a fantastic job. The 3 stars refer to the following: 1. We were disappointed that the adventure was labelled a One Shot yet wasn't a complete story. Discovering that there are two more parts wasn't very positive for us, as it meant there was no satisfying conclusion to the story. 2. As new players, it was difficult for us to understand the English character sheets in such a short time. In German, it would have been much easier. Even receiving the character sheets a few days in advance would have been helpful for preparation. 3. More guidance would be beneficial. Especially for beginners, a more linear one shot would have been preferable. We wasted a large portion of the adventure time doing unnecessary things because we didn't really know how the game worked. Overall, I think the StoryForgers concept is really good and I see a lot of potential in it, especially for introducing new players to D&D. I hope you don't take my feedback the wrong way but as honest criticism. Cheers, Mario

  • Bryan was exceptional. We had a group with varied experience levels, and he managed to keep everyone engaged and involved. His positive attitude made the game enjoyable for all. I really appreciated how he could clearly explain what was needed for our less experienced players while keeping our more seasoned players on their toes with his extensive knowledge of the game. Everyone in our party had a fantastic time thanks to Bryan.

    Jeremy

  • Dayron was fantastic. Well-prepared, punctual, and had a brilliant sense of humour.

    Corey

  • Dayron was fantastic; he provided an excellent experience. Thanks!

    The Merry Meeple

  • The game was incredibly engaging. I organised a session as a gift for my boyfriend, who is really passionate about it, and he was very pleased and appreciated Leonardo's professionalism. I don't have much experience with DnD, but I found the game to be quite straightforward and enjoyable.

    Marina

  • Baptiste was a fantastic GM who adapted seamlessly to our group and helped us make great progress in this one-shot. However, there was one issue with the character sheets provided; they were not complete or clear. Some of the French translations were quite rough. For instance, our cleric was missing spells, including a healing spell, even though they were meant to have some.

    Pierre

  • Rachel was fantastic; my daughter and her friends left their game saying it was the most fun they’d ever had, and my daughter wanted to sign up for another game with her straight away. She was friendly, and her approach let the players immerse themselves in the game by giving them control over how they wanted their actions to unfold. I would definitely work with her again.

    John

  • A great first experience with D&D. Amber was excellent at explaining and guiding the game, allowing us as players to quickly get into the flow and focus on the story. Collaborating on attack strategies with my colleagues was a fun activity that provided valuable insights into each other's characters, thought processes, and differences. Overall, I found it to be a very enjoyable session.

  • Pim is truly a legend as a DM! He's cheerful, adaptable, and incredibly experienced. With a group of novice players, he managed to create an amazing experience in just a few hours. He maintained control in a fun manner and engaged every player in the story, whether they were vocal or reserved. If you go adventuring with him, it will certainly be unforgettable!
