Mausritter

Small heroes, real stakes, lots of charm. Mausritter transforms everyday places into adventure, from barn lofts to moonlit gardens. You are mouse adventurers who sneak, scurry, and stand your ground with pins, buttons, and courage. It is warm and whimsical, yet danger feels genuine. Great for families, friend groups, or teams looking for a fresh twist on fantasy. Sessions run for 2 to 3 hours, accommodating 2 to 6 players. Browse our Game Masters to find someone who suits your vibe.

At the table, you make bold plans, explore maps, and solve problems with wit rather than brute force. The world reacts clearly to your choices, so sneaking past the cat, bargaining with a toad, or charging with a needle-lance are all options. Newcomers pick it up quickly, kids can join in, and old-school veterans appreciate the tight, exploration-first focus. Expect tension, laughter, and memorable scrapes that leave your mice a little braver by the end.

How to play Mausritter

Play is quick and tactile. When the outcome is uncertain, you roll a d20 against a relevant ability to see if your mouse holds steady, dodges, or pulls off a stunt. In fights, attacks are fast and to the point, with damage dice rolled immediately and armour able to reduce harm. On your turn, you describe what you do, the Game Master clarifies risks and results, then you roll only when needed.

Players bring imagination, a simple character sheet, and a standard set of dice, mainly a d20 and a few damage dice. Miniatures are optional. A professional Game Master brings the map, creatures, puzzles, safety tools, and rulings that keep play moving. Sessions work well in person or online with voice, a shared map, and digital dice. See common online play options if you are playing remotely.

For a one-shot, expect a focused mission with a clear goal, like a pantry heist or a rescue from the owl’s tree, wrapped up in 2 to 3 hours. In a campaign, the map widens into fields and hedgerows, your mice find or aid a settlement, relationships grow, and gear, treasures, and scars carry over. The tone remains lighthearted, but choices matter more as your tiny legends take shape.

Common questions

Do we need to know the rules to play?

No. Mausritter teaches quickly. Your Game Master sets up the premise, guides you through creating a mouse in minutes, then leads the first scenes so you learn by doing. The core actions are straightforward, and you only roll when it counts. If you prefer, choose a GM who emphasises teaching and gentle onboarding. Browse Game Masters to find someone who suits your group’s vibe and experience level.

How is Mausritter different from D&D?

You play courageous mice in a human-sized world, where everyday locations transform into dungeons and puzzles. The rules are straightforward, turns are swift, and strategy, positioning, and clever plans lead to success. Conflicts are resolved quickly, and it’s often smarter to avoid danger than to rush in. Progression is based on discoveries and treasure rather than lengthy ability trees. Magic is uncomplicated and item-based, not filled with pages of spells. It has a classic and adventurous feel, infused with a cosy charm and genuine stakes.

Is Mausritter suitable for kids or mixed age groups?

Yes. It is easy to read, quick to understand, and does not overwhelm with complex choices. A professional Game Master can adjust the tone, skip unsettling details, and emphasise bravery, teamwork, and clever problem-solving. Older players still encounter satisfying challenges through exploration and resource management. There is no set minimum age. If a child can listen, make a choice, and roll dice with assistance, they can participate and enjoy themselves.

How long does a session last and how many players are there?

A typical session lasts 2 to 3 hours for 2 to 6 players. Three to five players allows everyone ample spotlight, but two is great for stealthy, focused missions. Your Game Master tailors the location, clues, and threats to suit your group, enabling you to achieve a clear goal in one sitting or establish threads that encourage a return visit.

Do we need miniatures, maps, or special equipment?

No special kit required. You just need standard polyhedral dice, mainly a d20 and a few damage dice. Miniatures are optional. The GM might use a simple sketch map or tokens for clarity, but the rules work well with theatre of the mind. Mausritter’s signature inventory cards are a great addition in person, and they easily adapt to shared notes or handouts online.

How frightening or deadly is it for characters?

Mice are delicate, so consequences are important. Smart scouting, tools, and retreats are integral to the game. Failing may result in conditions, lost equipment, or a risky deal, and occasionally, a fallen hero. Your GM will first check in with you about the tone, then adjust the level of danger from comfortable escapades to tense survival situations. You can select a GM whose style aligns with your preferences. See examples on GM playstyles.

What players are saying

  • Tom was fantastic! He was really great with the kids and very patient with his explanations. It was a wonderful evening and definitely worth doing again! The kids asked the next day when we could do this again.

    Danny

  • First of all, I want to say that Sebastian was really great as a DM. For his first run as a booked DM, he did a fantastic job. The 3 stars refer to the following: 1. We were disappointed that the adventure was labelled a One Shot yet wasn't a complete story. Discovering that there are two more parts wasn't very positive for us, as it meant there was no satisfying conclusion to the story. 2. As new players, it was difficult for us to understand the English character sheets in such a short time. In German, it would have been much easier. Even receiving the character sheets a few days in advance would have been helpful for preparation. 3. More guidance would be beneficial. Especially for beginners, a more linear one shot would have been preferable. We wasted a large portion of the adventure time doing unnecessary things because we didn't really know how the game worked. Overall, I think the StoryForgers concept is really good and I see a lot of potential in it, especially for introducing new players to D&D. I hope you don't take my feedback the wrong way but as honest criticism. Cheers, Mario

  • Bryan was exceptional. We had a group with varied experience levels, and he managed to keep everyone engaged and involved. His positive attitude made the game enjoyable for all. I really appreciated how he could clearly explain what was needed for our less experienced players while keeping our more seasoned players on their toes with his extensive knowledge of the game. Everyone in our party had a fantastic time thanks to Bryan.

    Jeremy

  • Dayron was fantastic. Well-prepared, punctual, and had a brilliant sense of humour.

    Corey

  • Dayron was fantastic; he provided an excellent experience. Thanks!

    The Merry Meeple

  • The game was incredibly engaging. I organised a session as a gift for my boyfriend, who is really passionate about it, and he was very pleased and appreciated Leonardo's professionalism. I don't have much experience with DnD, but I found the game to be quite straightforward and enjoyable.

    Marina

  • Baptiste was a fantastic GM who adapted seamlessly to our group and helped us make great progress in this one-shot. However, there was one issue with the character sheets provided; they were not complete or clear. Some of the French translations were quite rough. For instance, our cleric was missing spells, including a healing spell, even though they were meant to have some.

    Pierre

  • Rachel was fantastic; my daughter and her friends left their game saying it was the most fun they’d ever had, and my daughter wanted to sign up for another game with her straight away. She was friendly, and her approach let the players immerse themselves in the game by giving them control over how they wanted their actions to unfold. I would definitely work with her again.

    John

  • A great first experience with D&D. Amber was excellent at explaining and guiding the game, allowing us as players to quickly get into the flow and focus on the story. Collaborating on attack strategies with my colleagues was a fun activity that provided valuable insights into each other's characters, thought processes, and differences. Overall, I found it to be a very enjoyable session.
