Lasers & Feelings

Lasers & Feelings is a fast, minimalist sci-fi RPG where you are the crew of a starship on daring missions. It shines when you want quick setup, big choices, and lots of table laughter. You sketch your crew, your ship, and what makes you tick, then jump straight into cinematic scenes. The tone ranges from clever banter to courageous problem solving, with plenty of chances for character moments. It is light-hearted without being silly, so you can lean into heroism, found family vibes, and strange new worlds while keeping the pace brisk.

A typical session starts in the middle of the action, then races through discoveries, alien encounters, and tough decisions for the captain and crew. A professional Game Master keeps things moving, asks great questions, and turns your ideas into star-spanning complications. It is friendly to first-timers and a fun palate cleanser for veterans. Perfect for one-shot parties, team-building, and remote groups, and it runs smoothly in person or online. Browse our Game Masters to find a guide who matches the way you like to play.

How to play Lasers & Feelings

Each player selects a single number that lies between logic and feeling. When you attempt something risky, you roll one or more six-sided dice. Roll low to excel at careful, technical actions, and roll high to shine when you act on instinct or emotion. Your role on the ship and your level of preparation can add extra dice, and matching your number unlocks a useful insight that can change the scene. Turns are quick: state what you want, the Game Master sets the stakes, you roll, and together you narrate the outcome.

You bring a simple character idea, a ship role you enjoy, and a willingness to think on your feet. The Game Master provides a mission spark, colourful NPCs, and ensures the fiction remains fair and fast. A one-shot delivers a complete adventure in about two to three hours, with quick character creation and a focused objective. A short campaign strings missions together so relationships deepen, rivals return, and your crew builds traditions. If you care about the tone, check GM playstyles to find a great fit.

Common questions

Do we need to understand the rules before we play?

No preparation required. Your Game Master will explain the rules in just a few minutes. Each player selects a single number that represents their style, then you roll a few six-sided dice when things get risky. Careful, technical actions lean towards one side of that number, while bold or emotional actions lean towards the other. The GM will guide you on what to roll and what your options are. Most groups feel confident after the first scene, allowing you to concentrate on decisions, banter, and clever problem-solving.

What group size is best for Lasers & Feelings?

It works well with 2 to 6 players. The sweet spot is typically 3 to 5, ensuring everyone has ample spotlight time. With 2 players, the game feels like an intimate buddy story, and scenes progress quickly. With 6, defined ship roles and swift turns maintain high momentum. The rules remain straightforward at any player count, and a skilled Game Master ensures each player has meaningful moments both on and off the bridge.

How long does a one-shot or session typically take?

A one-shot usually wraps up in around 2 to 3 hours. Allow 10 to 15 minutes to create characters and the ship, followed by 90 to 120 minutes of mission play featuring a clear climax and epilogue. For shorter campaigns, the same session length is effective as you link missions together. Your Game Master can adjust the pacing to fit your timeslot while still providing a satisfying conclusion.

Is it suitable for kids or mixed-age groups?

Yes. The rules are straightforward, turns are brief, and the tone can be adventurous without grim details. Players primarily need to listen, take their turn, and envision what their character does. A professional Game Master will assess comfort levels and adjust content and difficulty so everyone can participate. It is welcoming for families and for groups that mix newcomers with veterans. Younger players can rely on a clear ship role and a couple of signature moves.

How does it differ from D&D?

D&D focuses on classes, levels, and tactical combat. Lasers & Feelings is a one-page, story-first game about a starship crew solving problems with creativity and teamwork. There are no levels or lengthy ability lists. Scenes resolve with a quick roll and shared narration, keeping the pace lively. If your group enjoys fast decisions, playful sci-fi, and character moments amid daring choices, this is a great option alongside or instead of D&D.

What do we need to play, particularly online?

All you need are a few six-sided dice and something to note down your character and ship details. At a table, index cards and pens are more than sufficient. Online, a video call along with any dice roller works well. Many Game Masters can host using popular virtual tools and offer ready-to-use templates. If you'd like to explore options before booking, check out Online play platforms. There's no need for minis, a tactical map, or complicated software.

Should we keep it light-hearted and humorous, or take a more serious approach?

The system adapts to your style. You can go for clever banter and quirky twists, or concentrate on serious dilemmas, scientific challenges, and difficult decisions. Before the game starts, the Game Master will check your preferences regarding tone, humour, and content, then adjust scenes, NPCs, and stakes accordingly. If you have a particular vibe in mind, select a Game Master whose style aligns with it. See examples at GM playstyles.

What players are saying

  • First of all, I want to say that Sebastian was really great as a DM. For his first run as a booked DM, he did a fantastic job. The 3 stars refer to the following: 1. We were disappointed that the adventure was labelled a One Shot yet wasn't a complete story. Discovering that there are two more parts wasn't very positive for us, as it meant there was no satisfying conclusion to the story. 2. As new players, it was difficult for us to understand the English character sheets in such a short time. In German, it would have been much easier. Even receiving the character sheets a few days in advance would have been helpful for preparation. 3. More guidance would be beneficial. Especially for beginners, a more linear one shot would have been preferable. We wasted a large portion of the adventure time doing unnecessary things because we didn't really know how the game worked. Overall, I think the StoryForgers concept is really good and I see a lot of potential in it, especially for introducing new players to D&D. I hope you don't take my feedback the wrong way but as honest criticism. Cheers, Mario

  • Bryan was exceptional. We had a group with varied experience levels, and he managed to keep everyone engaged and involved. His positive attitude made the game enjoyable for all. I really appreciated how he could clearly explain what was needed for our less experienced players while keeping our more seasoned players on their toes with his extensive knowledge of the game. Everyone in our party had a fantastic time thanks to Bryan.

    Jeremy

  • Dayron was fantastic. Well-prepared, punctual, and had a brilliant sense of humour.

    Corey

  • Dayron was fantastic; he provided an excellent experience. Thanks!

    The Merry Meeple

  • The game was incredibly engaging. I organised a session as a gift for my boyfriend, who is really passionate about it, and he was very pleased and appreciated Leonardo's professionalism. I don't have much experience with DnD, but I found the game to be quite straightforward and enjoyable.

    Marina

  • Baptiste was a fantastic GM who adapted seamlessly to our group and helped us make great progress in this one-shot. However, there was one issue with the character sheets provided; they were not complete or clear. Some of the French translations were quite rough. For instance, our cleric was missing spells, including a healing spell, even though they were meant to have some.

    Pierre

  • Rachel was fantastic; my daughter and her friends left their game saying it was the most fun they’d ever had, and my daughter wanted to sign up for another game with her straight away. She was friendly, and her approach let the players immerse themselves in the game by giving them control over how they wanted their actions to unfold. I would definitely work with her again.

    John

  • A great first experience with D&D. Amber was excellent at explaining and guiding the game, allowing us as players to quickly get into the flow and focus on the story. Collaborating on attack strategies with my colleagues was a fun activity that provided valuable insights into each other's characters, thought processes, and differences. Overall, I found it to be a very enjoyable session.

  • Pim is truly a legend as a DM! He's cheerful, adaptable, and incredibly experienced. With a group of novice players, he managed to create an amazing experience in just a few hours. He maintained control in a fun manner and engaged every player in the story, whether they were vocal or reserved. If you go adventuring with him, it will certainly be unforgettable!
