DC Heroes

DC Heroes is the classic Mayfair Games roleplaying game set in the DC Universe, powered by the MEGS engine. It caters to superheroes of all kinds, from back-alley stakeouts to alien invasions. Players team up, make tough decisions, and stand tall in vibrant, high-stakes scenarios. The rules emphasise teamwork, daring moves, and comic-book pacing. Iconic lore and familiar cities provide instant hooks, whether you prefer bright optimism or street-level grit. This game is distinct from DC Adventures or West End’s DC game, allowing your session to embrace its own unique, punchy style.

At the table, you exchange quips, chase clues, and confront memorable villains as a team. Action is swift and decisive, then pauses for banter and investigation. It is welcoming to newcomers, enjoyable for teens, and deep enough for seasoned players. Perfect for birthdays, office teams, or a focused one-shot with friends. You can play as legends like the Justice League or create an original hero. A professional Game Master guides you as you play and tailors the tone to your group. Ready to begin? How to play DC Heroes

You roll two ten-sided dice. Every attribute, skill, and power uses a single scale, so speeds, weight, and difficulty all compare neatly. On your turn, you describe what your hero does, the Game Master sets a difficulty, and you roll. A simple results table shows not just success or failure, but how strong the effect is. You also manage Hero Points, a pool you can spend to push a key action, survive a hit, or pull off a daring stunt. The Game Master handles the table and pacing so you can stay in character.

You bring a hero concept, a character sheet, and a brief idea of their values and signature move. If you prefer, the Game Master can provide pre-generated characters, including DC icons. Dice and a pencil are all you need in person. For online play, a mic, webcam, and a shared map or dice roller keep things smooth. The Game Master brings the scenario, villains and allies, rules help, and DC lore, and keeps the spotlight moving fairly between players.

In a one-shot, expect a clear mission, fast character setup, and a headline set piece, like stopping a museum heist or diverting a falling satellite. In a campaign, your team builds a rogues’ gallery, explores secret identities and subplots, and grows through earned experience and Hero Points. The tone can shift over arcs, from grounded detective work to reality-bending crossovers, guided by your group’s goals and the Game Master's style.

Common questions

Do I need to know the rules or DC lore to join in?

No. You can come in with no prior knowledge of the rules or setting. A professional Game Master will teach you the basics of MEGS as you play. It uses 2d10 with a straightforward results chart, and you have Hero Points to spend for significant moments. If you're unfamiliar with DC characters and cities, your GM will provide a quick overview and ensure references are clear. You can choose a pre-made character, including well-known heroes, or receive assistance in creating an original character that fits the scenario and the team.

Which edition will we use, and how is it selected?

Most tables use Second or Third Edition. All editions share the MEGS core, the action table, and Hero Points, so they feel similar at the table. First Edition is an option if your group wants a classic presentation. Second Edition has the widest range of published material. Third Edition refines how powers and options are organised. A professional Game Master will choose what best supports your scenario and group. If you prefer a specific edition, mention it when you book. Browse GMs here: Game Masters.

How does DC Heroes differ from D&D at the table?

DC Heroes is designed for superheroes. There are no classes or levels. You define a hero through attributes, powers, and motives, then tackle challenges with stunts and teamwork. It uses two d10s and one universal scale to compare force, speed, and difficulty, so wild feats follow the same flow as clue hunting. You manage Hero Points to enhance a crucial roll, reduce damage, or improvise a power use. Fights are fast, stakes are clear, and scenes shift back to investigation and character choices.

Can we play as Batman, Wonder Woman, or create our own hero?

Absolutely. You can take on an iconic role or create a new hero. Our Game Masters frequently offer pre-generated sheets for well-known heroes, adjusted for group balance. If you prefer something original, just share a concept, a signature move, and a few values. The GM will help translate that into attributes, powers, and limits on the MEGS scale. The team selects a theme, such as Gotham nights or city defenders, ensuring your builds complement each other and everyone gets scenes that highlight their strengths.

How powerful can our team become, and does it blend well?

DC Heroes manages scale effectively. The MEGS system evaluates everything on a single scale, allowing a street detective, a metahuman bruiser, and a speedster to share the spotlight. Opposed values and the results table ensure that actions have significance at every level. Heavy hitters face genuine challenges, while clues, contacts, and clever tactics enable lower-powered heroes to shine in crucial moments. Your Game Master adjusts threats and objectives to fit your selected power level, ranging from local issues to interstellar dangers, agreed upon before play to ensure everyone is involved.

Is DC Heroes suitable for kids, and can you adjust the tone?

It works well for kids and teens. The rules use clear comparisons and a simple chart, so new players can act quickly without needing to do any homework. Action can be bright and non-graphic, and villains can be stopped without grim detail. A professional Game Master checks comfort levels, uses safety tools, and keeps the pace lively with breaks. Pre-generated heroes help younger players jump in. If you prefer light-hearted, pulpy, or serious, you can choose a GM style to match: GM playstyles.

What players are saying

  • First of all, I want to say that Sebastian was really great as a DM. For his first run as a booked DM, he did a fantastic job. The 3 stars refer to the following: 1. We were disappointed that the adventure was labelled a One Shot yet wasn't a complete story. Discovering that there are two more parts wasn't very positive for us, as it meant there was no satisfying conclusion to the story. 2. As new players, it was difficult for us to understand the English character sheets in such a short time. In German, it would have been much easier. Even receiving the character sheets a few days in advance would have been helpful for preparation. 3. More guidance would be beneficial. Especially for beginners, a more linear one shot would have been preferable. We wasted a large portion of the adventure time doing unnecessary things because we didn't really know how the game worked. Overall, I think the StoryForgers concept is really good and I see a lot of potential in it, especially for introducing new players to D&D. I hope you don't take my feedback the wrong way but as honest criticism. Cheers, Mario

  • Bryan was exceptional. We had a group with varied experience levels, and he managed to keep everyone engaged and involved. His positive attitude made the game enjoyable for all. I really appreciated how he could clearly explain what was needed for our less experienced players while keeping our more seasoned players on their toes with his extensive knowledge of the game. Everyone in our party had a fantastic time thanks to Bryan.

    Jeremy

  • Dayron was fantastic. Well-prepared, punctual, and had a brilliant sense of humour.

    Corey

  • Dayron was fantastic; he provided an excellent experience. Thanks!

    The Merry Meeple

  • The game was incredibly engaging. I organised a session as a gift for my boyfriend, who is really passionate about it, and he was very pleased and appreciated Leonardo's professionalism. I don't have much experience with DnD, but I found the game to be quite straightforward and enjoyable.

    Marina

  • Baptiste was a fantastic GM who adapted seamlessly to our group and helped us make great progress in this one-shot. However, there was one issue with the character sheets provided; they were not complete or clear. Some of the French translations were quite rough. For instance, our cleric was missing spells, including a healing spell, even though they were meant to have some.

    Pierre

  • Rachel was fantastic; my daughter and her friends left their game saying it was the most fun they’d ever had, and my daughter wanted to sign up for another game with her straight away. She was friendly, and her approach let the players immerse themselves in the game by giving them control over how they wanted their actions to unfold. I would definitely work with her again.

    John

  • A great first experience with D&D. Amber was excellent at explaining and guiding the game, allowing us as players to quickly get into the flow and focus on the story. Collaborating on attack strategies with my colleagues was a fun activity that provided valuable insights into each other's characters, thought processes, and differences. Overall, I found it to be a very enjoyable session.

  • Pim is truly a legend as a DM! He's cheerful, adaptable, and incredibly experienced. With a group of novice players, he managed to create an amazing experience in just a few hours. He maintained control in a fun manner and engaged every player in the story, whether they were vocal or reserved. If you go adventuring with him, it will certainly be unforgettable!
